We spend so much of our lives chasing dreams and setting goals, often unaware of the unexpected turns life has in store. So how do you navigate those moments when things don’t go as planned? Like many people standing at that kind of crossroads, Anabel Rose leans into reflection on her latest release, “Imperfect Daughters.” The song is a deeply personal ballad that explores the quiet, internal shift that happens when reality begins to drift away from the dreams we once held onto so tightly. It speaks to anyone who has had to come to terms with life taking a different path than expected.
Through honest and intimate storytelling, she captures the tension between childhood ideals and the realities of growing up. Lines like “But sometimes your life makes other plans… now you’re dead in the water… with should-haves and would-haves…” echo that familiar feeling of looking back and questioning the choices and circumstances that shaped your journey. At its core, the song is a reminder that while we often imagine perfect outcomes, life inevitably comes with imperfections and unexpected detours. Still, there’s beauty in learning to embrace both the highs and the lows without letting setbacks define you.

Speaking on the track, Anabel Rose describes it as a space where vulnerability meets strength: “Imperfect Daughters is me finding a tender space between disappointment and resilience. It’s reflective, empowering, and speaks to women who are pushing boundaries, not just for themselves, but for future generations. The song ultimately stands as an anthem for those choosing unconventional paths, especially in a world that often pressures people to conform. It offers a sense of reassurance and release from the guilt that can come with stepping outside of expectations.
Though Anabel Rose describes herself as an “alt-pop artist,” her sound stretches far beyond a single label. Her music fluidly weaves together elements of pop, rock, R&B, alté, house, and even bossa nova, creating a style that feels both refreshing and distinctly her own. At its core, her artistry is rooted in self-discovery and an open exploration of love, life, and vulnerability that encourages listeners to embrace who they are without hesitation.
Her journey began taking shape in 2018 during her time as a fellow with Black Girls Glow in Accra. There, she collaborated with three other women to create and perform a full project within a month, an experience that played a key role in defining her artistic direction. Over the years, she continued refining her sound, leading up to the release of her debut single, “Love Me or Die,” in 2023, a dreamy blend of pop-rock and soul that marked the beginning of her genre-bending journey.
Since then, she has built momentum with multiple singles and her EP, “Something About a Rose,” a project that introduced listeners to her emotionally rich and sonically layered world. With each release, her audience, fondly known as the Rosalindas, has steadily expanded, earning her growing recognition both within and beyond Ghana.
As a member of the 99PHACES collective, Anabel continues to thrive in collaborative spaces while staying connected to her roots in community-driven work. Her early involvement with Black Girls Glow also reflects her ongoing interest in the intersection of music and social impact. Ultimately, her music is an open invitation to feel deeply, live freely, and create without the pressure of external validation. Produced by Insvne Auggie, the record is driven by emotive vocals and a slow, cinematic build that pulls listeners into its emotional depth.
“Imperfect Daughters” is now available on all major streaming platforms.
