Nigerian singer BNXN and producer Sarz have reunited for a new joint EP titled The Game Needs Us, released through EMPIRE. The five-track project continues the creative partnership that previously delivered songs like Gwagwalada and Pidgin & English.
Produced entirely by Sarz, the EP blends Afrofusion, Afrobeats, and modern pop influences, while pushing both artists into more experimental territory. According to the duo, the project reflects the changing direction of African music while still staying rooted in strong melodies and relatable storytelling.
The lead single, Back Outside, quickly gained traction after release, debuting at number one on Apple Music Nigeria. The song has reportedly pulled in more than 22 million streams alongside over two million video views within its first few weeks.
Other tracks on the project include Rum & Soda, Emotional High, and Frank Sinatra, with the songs touching on themes of love, relationships, vulnerability, and emotional distance.
Speaking about the project, BNXN described the EP as a reflection of where African music is headed.
“The Game Needs Us, just as the name implies. This project brings together two of Nigeria’s greatest forces to deliver a refreshing yet reflective experience and show the dynamics in the African sound.”
Sarz also shared that working on the EP gave him room to experiment creatively.
“After Gwagwalada and Pidgin & English, it only made sense to continue that chemistry. Working on this project helped me explore African and South American sonic influences.”
The release marks BNXN’s first major project in nearly 10 months following his album CAPTAIN. For Sarz, it is also his first full project since releasing Protect Sarz At All Costs.
Over the years, both artists have played key roles in the global rise of Afrobeats, with BNXN earning praise for his distinctive vocals and songwriting, while Sarz continues to be recognised as one of the genre’s most influential producers.
