International Afrobeats star Tiwa Savage has officially launched the Tiwa Savage Music Foundation, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at supporting young African creatives across the music industry. The foundation is designed to provide aspiring producers, songwriters, sound engineers, and other creative professionals with professional training opportunities that are often limited on the continent.
Announcing the initiative, Ms. Savage emphasised the importance of developing the broader creative ecosystem behind African music.
“An industry cannot thrive on artists alone. Behind every global sound is a network of producers, engineers, lawyers, publishers, and innovators. If we do not deliberately invest in developing these roles, we weaken the foundation of the industry.”
Drawing from her own experience as a student at Berklee College of Music in the mid-2000s, Tiwa Savage highlighted how access to structured education expanded her creative and business understanding.
“Talent exists everywhere, but access does not,” she said, noting that emerging technologies like artificial intelligence are reshaping music production and distribution, making structured learning even more essential for African creatives.
Partnership with Berklee College of Music
The foundation has partnered with Berklee College of Music to deliver a four-day intensive training programme in Lagos, scheduled for April 23–26, 2026. Berklee faculty will work directly with 100 selected participants, providing hands-on training in areas such as live performance, songwriting, music production, and the business of music.
Participants will also receive guidance on navigating the global music industry, building sustainable careers, and blending West African musical traditions with international styles. The programme will conclude with a live showcase of original works, and selected participants will gain access to further mentorship and Berklee’s on-campus and online programmes.

Jim Lucchese, President of Berklee College of Music, described the initiative as part of the institution’s ongoing international outreach, while Jason Camelio, who oversees Berklee’s global programmes, added that partnerships with artists like Tiwa Savage help the school connect with local creative communities.
About The Opportunity
Applications are open to musicians, producers, songwriters, and other creatives across Africa until March 20, 2026. Participation is tuition-free for those selected, though participants are expected to cover their travel and accommodation costs in Lagos. The long-term goal of the Tiwa Savage Music Foundation is to broaden awareness of career opportunities within the music industry and provide young Africans with pathways to develop their talents and build sustainable careers.
