A new initiative is setting the stage for Ghana’s next generation of creatives, as the Afrofuture Creative Studio Program, powered by the Mastercard Foundation, opens doors for young talent to transform their ideas into real-world opportunities.
Ghana’s cultural identity has long been defined by a blend of tradition, craftsmanship, and forward-thinking creativity. From indigenous artistry to modern design, these expressions have always served as a reflection of the nation’s story. As the global creative economy continues to evolve, preserving and reimagining these narratives has become more important than ever.

The AfroFuture Creative Studio Program is built with that purpose in mind. Designed specifically for young people across Ghana, the initiative provides a structured pathway for individuals to explore creative design, not just as a passion, but as a viable career. For many participants, this will be their first formal introduction to the creative industry, making the program both accessible and intentionally inclusive.
Spanning 18 months, the program combines practical training with guided mentorship, offering a hands-on learning experience that goes beyond theory. Participants will be introduced to the fundamentals of design through courses in drawing, visual storytelling, design thinking, and cultural studies. Alongside these creative disciplines, the curriculum also emphasizes essential professional skills such as communication, collaboration, and presentation, tools that are critical for success in today’s creative landscape.
What sets the program apart is its open-entry approach. No prior experience is required, allowing individuals from diverse backgrounds to participate. Instead, the focus is placed on curiosity, dedication, and a willingness to learn. As the program progresses, participants will gradually build the confidence and technical ability to create work that reflects Ghana’s cultural identity while aligning with global standards.
In its final phase, the program shifts toward real-world application. Participants will complete a capstone project, providing them with the opportunity to showcase their work to industry professionals, receive valuable feedback, and explore potential career pathways. Whether through employment, entrepreneurship, or further creative development, the goal is to ensure that each participant leaves with tangible growth opportunities.
At its core, the Afrofuture Creative Studio Program is about more than skill-building; it’s about access and empowerment. By equipping young creatives with the tools to tell their own stories and shape their futures, the initiative contributes to a broader vision of strengthening Ghana’s creative economy and positioning it on the global stage.
